1. What do you love most about Cary?
We had intended on moving to Charlotte, but drove into Cary on a fluke and immediately changed our minds and I am so happy we did. Cary is a place where people smile, you’re not inundated with tall signs and golden arches. You don’t feel rushed, it’s like a quiet retreat. It’s always a joy and a relief to come home.
2. What are the best things about your neighborhood?
Location is everything. Being so close to shopping, great schools, and great dining. My son goes to school in downtown Raleigh and does fencing at Duke University – our access to all the major roads makes this easy. The neighborhood is quiet – which we love. When the weather is nicer there are definitely more people out walking, with kids etc. But you will never hear loud music, horns, yelling etc. People are very respectful of one another and very helpful.
3. What are a few of your favorite LOCAL restaurants or shops?
La Farm is rated one of the best bakeries in the nation and I meet friends there at least once a week for a quick bite, and the owner is a doll. Rise Biscuits and Donuts is right up the street, I love treating out of town guests to some sweets and southern biscuits. The Umstead hotel is so close, they have wonderful annual events like holiday brunches, wine tastings, and of course spa days. And the restaurant there, Herons, is amazing.
4. What are some of the best nearby conveniences?
My son’s pediatrician, my dog groomer and vet, are all within 10 minutes. There are great gyms nearly everywhere. Fresh Market, Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Harris Teeter and coming soon is Wegmans – all within 10 minutes. Bond Park, West Cary Park and Umstead Park are all so close – when it’s nice we pack a picnic and spend the afternoon.
5. What are your favorite things about your home?
This was our ‘destination’ home. We had intended on staying here through the kids going off to college, But circumstances change, and we hate to leave because we chose this home from our hearts. I love the mud room – with kids and a dog, you need a place to dump everything. It contains the family chaos. The backyard is wonderful, I will miss my spring and summer days laying by the pool, entertaining friends or enjoying a quiet drink on the patio. I feel like every room is ‘usable’. Most of these larger homes have areas that people don’t know what to do with them. We chose this home so every room is used and has a purpose. The kitchen is a place to gather, the heart of the home. As you can see, I will miss this place, because it holds wonderful memories and represents a very special time for us. I hope that the next owners will find their joy as we have.
